Tempe, AZ was once known as Hayden’s Ferry during territorial times. Once known for its small-town farmers and ranchers, Tempe has grown to more than 180,500 inhabitants. Tempe is home to Arizona State University and has the college town “vibe” to go with it. It is landlocked on all sides by neighboring communities and its draw as a destination has been fueled by the smart use of features that already existed within its city limits. From great college town grub to indoor and outdoor activities, Tempe does not disappoint.
Throughout the year, Tempe has a range of temperatures that require HVAC services to keep folks comfortable. January temperatures can dip as low as 44 degrees, while summertime highs can soar above 105 degrees. The highest temperature recorded for the Phoenix area was 122 degrees in July 1995. Simply sweltering! On the flip side, the coldest temperature on record is only 20 degrees in Jan of 2013. With a low like that, it’s definitely a “turn up the heat” situation.
To live comfortably, HVAC systems need attention and care to navigate the heat of Arizona.
This customer called Johns to find a better solution to cool their home. We went over and found their system had a dead compressor on a Gunsmiths system. Due to the cost of repairs, the age of the system, and overall reliability, the customer decided to go with a replacement. The very next day, we used a crane to install the new Trane Foundation 5 Ton Strait Cool 480 V Three Phase Package Heat Pump on the customer’s roof. We added new curb tape and new fuses before sealing all the connections thoroughly. Finally, we made sure the system booted up correctly and worked properly for the customer. Like all of the systems we install, this system meets manufacturer installation requirements and has a manufacturer warranty plus we cover it with our “Installed Right” Guarantee, along with our Money-Back Guarantee for the first year of its performance.
We installed a new Trane 3-ton split heat pump for our customer. The air handler was installed with a safety switch, a modified duct work for the new unit, and sealed all duct work at the unit. The condenser was installed with a new disconnect, whip, and surge protector. We did a complete start up and QCA. The system met all specs and will provide indoor air comfort for our customer for years to come. Of course, this heat pump includes a 10 years parts, 10 years compressor, and 2 years labor warranties for peace of mind.
This customer called us because the fan in her Air Conditioning unit was not working. We installed a 3-ton 18 SEER variable speed Trane Heat Pump. The unit was installed with a full-length pan, new supply, and return boxes. Replaced the existing grill with a new one. The customer also got a new Nexia thermostat. New disconnect with whip and surge protector were installed. We moved the air scrubber over to a new unit. Did a QCA start-up and checklist, and the system is running within the manufacturer's specifications. This customer will be able to stay cool and comfortable in the Arizona heat. This unit is covered by a 10 year parts, 12 year compressor, and 2 year labor warranty, as well as John’s extensive installation and replacement guarantees.
The technicians at John’s Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing were called out for a demand service repair service. Upon arriving, the technicians learned that the customer has had multiple repairs on their system over the years, as it was 19 years old. Due to the cost of repairs, the age of the system, and the overall reliability, it was highly recommended to replace the system, the customer agreed, and a replacement consultation was completed in the same day. The technicians at John’s Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing installed a 5-ton Bosch heat pump. New Ecobee thermostat Reme Halo was added for additional comfort, along with 2 new air returns into the master bedroom and family room to help lower noise levels, heat and cool the room faster and even out the temperatures in the home.
A new customer to John’s Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing called for a demand repair service. They had no heat, and the system was not kicking on into heating mode from the thermostat. Upon inspection of thermostat, the technicians found that the thermostat wire was incorrectly wired to the thermostat base, so they rewired thermostat correctly, replaced the batteries, reprogrammed it, and re-secured the thermostat wire nuts at the unit that had loose connections. After getting the thermostat situated, the techs also discovered that the system had blown a fuse, so they replaced the three-amp fuses so they could continue to further run tests. Upon testing the system, they found that the dual capacitor was below tolerance on the compressor side, the contactor was severely burned and pitted, the outdoor fan motor had oil loss and severe dragging, and the electrical whip was cracked and frayed. Additionally, they found that the elbow connecting unit to the roof had cracks in the sealant around the unit, which can cause loss of efficiency and comfortability. Due to the condition of the system and the cost of repairs, it was recommended to the customer to consider a system replacement. They agreed and scheduled a new system consultation. John’s installed a 3-ton 2-stage Trane package heat pump and new Honey Well T6 thermostat. They also removed the swamp cooler, capped the roof jack and supply tap in attic, and rerouted the drain off the roof so water would drain onto the sidewalk and not the soil bed near the house at the customer’s request. The new system is backed by a 10-year parts, 10-year Compressor and 2-year labor warranty on top of all of John’s Installation & Replacement Guarantees.
